Princess on a Penny...A Girl that Can!

An adorable friend and "designing woman" in Florida sent this creative Girlie Girl project.
Kim Preston-Niemann is known for her "Princess on a Penny" projects.  She is a Girlie Girl that "can"...on any task she tackles.

Kim used an old green chandelier, some discarded jewelry, and a can of white spray paint to create this gorgeous masterpiece.

As a Princess on a Penny you will need the following supplies for this project:
  • Can of spray paint
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Masking tape
  • Discard jewelry...pearls are the choice of this Girlie Girl
  • Chandelier
  1. First, tape off the light bulb sockets on your old chandelier.
  2. I would suggest hanging your old chandelier from a tree outside a little below eye level.
  3. In quick light strokes apply spray paint to chandelier.  You may need several coats to cover ornate details but apply paint lightly to avoid drips.
  4. Carefully remove tape from light bulb sockets while chandelier is still damp.
  5. Allow chandelier to dry thoroughly.
  6. Using hot glue gun, carefully apply discarded jewelry as desired to the fixture.
  7. Have your masterpiece...fit for a Princess... wired in your home by an experienced electrician.
  8. Sit back in the glow of your creation and enjoy!
Remember....a Girlie Girl can....with a Paint Can!

Paint Can to Gift Can....You can!

Even a Girlie Girl has a responsibility to protect her environment.
Rather than going green..... let's think PINK!

Ladies, grab those discarded paint cans and turn them into designer gift cans.  You will help save the environment by reducing landfill waste....and look stylish with your gift giving!

Enjoy this easy "how to" video and post your inspirations.

And remember....A Girlie Girl can....with her paint can!

Accessories for the Walls...like matching shoes to your purse

Now Gals....you know how important our accessories are to everyday life.  This girl can't hit the road without her pearls and a snazzy purse in tow.  When it comes to freshly painted walls...let's accessorize them with art work!

Here are a few tips for hanging pictures....the girlie way!
  1. Always hang art work at eye level.  Hanging a picture too high is like looking up the nose of a very tall person.  The view...well, it just isn't as pleasing!
  2. Use small pictures grouped together in fours to give the illusion of larger art.
  3. Cut templates to size of your art work and arrange it on the wall with tacky tack.  This trick allows you to move objects around to achieve your desired look before you drive a hole into your freshly painted wall.
  4. Frames do not have to match each other in finish or size to be grouped together.  It's like wearing a broach with your pearls....if it works....It works!  Just find a nice balance.
  5. When hanging a picture behind a sofa, don't leave a lot of wall space.  Allow 3 to six inches between the picture and the sofa.  This technique anchors the art to the furniture giving a uniform feeling.
  6. For extra sass in a country home, hang pictures from luxurious ribbons.  This technique gives a little splash of tradition.....like our old penny loafers tucked away in the closet, you can't do without 'em.

Painting Trim

Okay Ladies...grab your pearls and a 2" angled paint brush and let's spruce up our trim!

Baseboards and door openings take the most abuse in our homes.  From wet dog noses to shoe scuffs, wear and tear is apparent on these little jewels.  Breathe new life into your trim with a fresh coat of paint!

For this project you will need:
2" angled paint brush
Painters tape
Semi-gloss latex paint

Carefully tape off your trim with your painters tape.
Next, take you brush and load it lightly with paint.
In short strokes, add paint to your trim.
If painting door trim, use short downward strokes followed by one complete (length) upward stroke.  This full length stroke smoothes out brush strokes on your trim.
Finally, peel off your painters tape BEFORE the paint dries.

Viola!  You just added some pizazz to the room girlie style.  To me, nothing makes a room feel newer or cleaner than a freshly painted trim.
